Protect my pet

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we have teamed up with Protect My Pet who are all about keeping your dog’s healthy and happy. Their vet has shared some top tips to treat your dog this Valentine’s Day.

We may be starting to think of ways to treat those special people in our lives, but what about our dogs?! Surely they deserve some special attention too. The usual chocolates, flowers and fancy restaurants may not be appropriate, so how do we show our furry friends how much they mean to us?

Doing something new together is a great way to strengthen your connection with your pet. Exploring somewhere new together, such as your local National Trust grounds or visiting the coast is a really fun way to bond with your dog. You will both be discovering together and getting some exercise along the way. Make sure you take some photos of your adventures, so you can treasure the memory for years to come.

Spending time teaching your dog a new trick is always worthwhile. A new party trick will help keep your dog’s mind sharp and may even impress a few dinner guests.

Grooming your pet is another way to spend quality time together. In addition to keeping their coat clean and shiny it is an opportunity to feel for any new lumps or bumps that should not be there. It is also the time to check for external parasites such as fleas, ticks and mites. Your pet will enjoy the sensation of grooming and having your focus on them. By paying attention to your pet you will learn where and how they like to be petted. Most dogs find a good scratch around the chest, shoulders and ear base thoroughly enjoyable. Avoid the delicate muzzle area and paws to ensure your dog is able to fully enjoy the experience.

In return for lavishing them with attention you will benefit too. It has been shown that spending time your dog has benefits on human blood pressure, what more excuse do you need?

Just as we all enjoy the occasional chocolate, there are few dogs that will turn down a tasty treat. Here at Pont & Pierce we have created healthy doggy treats so you can spoil your pet without the guilt. Just remember when giving treats to make dinner slightly smaller to reflect the extra calories.

This February, Pont & Pierce have created heart-shaped treats especially for Protect My Pet. Protect My Pet will deliver your dog’s personalised flea and worm treatments through the door each month, exactly when they are due. This helpful service means you will never miss a dose again. Find your Pont & Pierce treat in the February Protect My Pet box.
